February update 💝

What’s up, everyone? sv99 here!
Here’s a new update from the Scales of Fate dev team!
We apologize for it being slightly belated.

crystal has been busy, so I'll writing this month's update! This year is already moving so fast, huh? The end of February always manages to sneak up on us too. In the past few months, the team has been focused on writing and planning for the last two CGs to be implemented into the demo 2.0 that was mentioned in previous updates (once this is implemented, we'll release the updated demo!)

1. Writing
Currently, all three routes are still in different stages of development. Luo Siyuan's route has been making steady progress (around halfway through chapter 4), though progress on Mo Rui's route has been slow due crystal having school, but she plans to continue progress when school settles down. That said, once the two manuscripts reach chapter 5 and their respective good and bad ends, heavy editing period will take place. Lian Qiaoma’s route will likely be on standby until the other two routes are completed. We appreciate your patience as always (especially the Lian Qiaoma stans 🥺). We are working with route outlines so we have a direction for each branching storyline.

It’s likely that a good portion of the route drafts that go over the word limit will be turned into extra short stories, so please look forward to that! They may either be unlocked in-game, or be published so that they can be played online on platforms that support online visual novels, like CloudNovel.

Anyway, here is another sneak peek, this time of Mo Rui’s route! Please note that what's shown in the preview may be subject to some changes in the full game.

2. Art
As mentioned, sketches are in development for the last two CGs needed in the common route (updated demo). The first includes Mo Rui’s intro and the second includes all four characters together. Art will inevitably be the element that takes the longest, but our artist always makes her best pieces when she can work at her own pace, so we will continue to not rush when possible so that this visual novel can reach the highest quality it can with the resources we have.

Right now, we have a rough sketch of Mo Rui's CG. It'll look a lot better in the actual game, haha.

Meanwhile, though, here is a little bonus art from our artist, oofcat, as well as myself to tide you over while the CGs are being made and implemented.

oofcat drew Luo Siyuan doing Jin Shen's hair, chibi style! Aren't they cute?

I
swear Luo Siyuan isn’t hogging all the team’s attention, I'm just writing Luo Siyuan’s route, so of course, I will draw him first (haha).

3. Programming
Things on the coding side have been a bit stagnant, as we've been focusing on art and writing for now, but before we put out the new demo, we may make some (more or less minor) changes to the code and add some things in when it comes to the in-game glossary that may have been brushed over.

Anyway, although this was a short update, it’s important to us to continue sharing our progress, however large or small it may be. We wish you a (late) Happy Lunar New Year – 恭喜发财! – and Valentine's Day. We’ll release another post in a couple more months (hopefully) with even more fun content and good news. Please keep an eye out for the release of the new demo, and as always, thank you for your continued support of Scales of Fate!!
